This privacy policy explains what personal information MyCommunity UAE collects, why we collect it, how we use it, and what choices you have. It applies to the MyC resident app, the MyC Admin app, and the mycommunityuae.com website (collectively, "the Service").

The Service is operated by MyCommunity UAE ("we", "us"), based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

1. Information we collect

We only collect information necessary to operate the Service.

You provide directly:

  • Name, email address, and mobile number
  • Apartment / unit number and the building you live in or manage
  • Photos and text you post in the community feed, the marketplace, or events
  • Text you submit in maintenance requests
  • Profile photo (optional)

Collected automatically:

  • Device type, operating system, app version
  • Approximate IP-based location (used only for fraud prevention and analytics)
  • Crash reports and basic usage analytics (e.g., which screens are opened)
  • Push notification token (so we can deliver notifications)

We do NOT collect:

  • Precise GPS location
  • Contacts, calendar, or microphone data
  • Banking, payment card, or government ID numbers (the Service does not handle payments)
  • Health data

2. How we use information

We use your information to:

  • Verify you as a resident of your building (your apartment number is shown to your building admin only)
  • Deliver notices, maintenance updates, and other communications from your building
  • Operate features you use — feed posts, marketplace listings, events, maintenance requests
  • Send push notifications you have opted into
  • Detect abuse, fraud, and policy violations
  • Improve the Service (aggregate, non-identifying analytics)
  • Communicate with you about the Service (support, important updates)

We do not use your data for advertising. We do not sell your data.

3. Who can see what

  • Other residents in your building can see your name, apartment number, profile photo, and anything you post in the community feed, marketplace, or events.
  • Your building admin can additionally see your contact email/phone and your maintenance requests.
  • Other buildings cannot see you or your content.
  • MyCommunity UAE staff can access data only as needed to operate the Service, respond to support requests, or comply with the law.
  • Service providers we use (hosting, push notifications, analytics, crash reporting) process data on our behalf under contract; they cannot use it for their own purposes.

4. Where data is stored

Data is stored on cloud infrastructure that may be located inside or outside the UAE. We use providers that meet recognised security standards. By using the Service you consent to this transfer.

5. How long we keep it

We retain personal data for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward for legal, security, and operational purposes. Maintenance requests and announcements may be retained by your building for their own record-keeping. When you delete your account or ask us to delete your data, we will remove personal data within a reasonable timeframe, with the exception of information we are required to retain by law.

You can request earlier deletion at any time (see section 7).

6. Security

We use industry-standard measures including encryption in transit (TLS), encrypted storage at rest, access controls, and regular security reviews. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to protect your data and will notify you and the appropriate authorities of any material breach as required by UAE law.

7. Your rights

You can:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Delete your account and associated personal data (see section 8)
  • Export your data — available on request by email
  • Withdraw consent for optional processing (e.g., push notifications)
  • Opt out of non-essential communications

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@mycommunityuae.com. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the UAE data protection authority.

8. Account deletion

You can delete your MyC account at any time:

When you delete your account, we remove your personal profile data, your posts in the community feed, your marketplace listings, your events, and your maintenance requests. Some information may be retained in anonymised form for analytics, or where we are legally required to keep it.

9. Children

The Service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Third-party services

We use the following sub-processors. Each has their own privacy policy:

  • Cloud hosting (for app backend and storage)
  • Push notification delivery
  • Crash reporting and product analytics
  • Email delivery

A current list of sub-processors is available on request.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. Material changes will be notified to you in-app and by email. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when it was last revised.
